We hear news about COVID-19 on TV and so on every day. I had a plan to visit Taipei, Taiwan with my family including a infant but I could not help cancelling the itinerary because of COVID-19. I am going to report the circumstances of cancellation on Expedia.
I booked a hotel named “Grand Hotel Taipei (圓山大飯店)” for 3 nights from April 30th, 2020. The plan was non refundable and it costs about 100 USD per night. The day I booked is May 1st. I expected COVID-19 spread would come to an end.
On April 1st, 2020 I got a message from the hotel by Expedia suddenly. The message is following.
“Starting from 16:00 17/03/2020, the guests from overseas must be in quarantine before being able to enter Taiwan as there may be a concern of increasing the risk level of Coronavirus outbreak dramatically. Therefore, the hotel currently has taken actions to prevent this from spreading actively and seriously. It is unfortunate that the hotel may be unable to accommodate the overseas travelers”.
Then I got the next message “This booking has been cancelled by the hotel. Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), there will be no charge” on April 8th, 2020.
My reservation was non refundable plan but I hear I will be able to get refund without cancellation fee. If you reserved accommodation on Expedia, it is non refundable plan and you concern whether you will travel or not, I recommend contact with your hotel. You may get refund without fee even if your reservation is non refundable.
